The worldwide market for organic coffee continues to grow significantly, with the global retail value of organic coffee at approximately $300 Million USD. Organic coffee retail value has demonstrated steady annual growth rates, in excess of 20% over the last few years. Fair Trade coffee is significantly larger, at about $500 Million USD, with organic coffee rising from 1% of total Fair Trade coffee to 36% in 2000. This demonstrates the strong and increasing growing consumer demand for organic coffee. For example, sales of organic coffee in 2000 increased by nearly 50% in the USA alone.

Consumers have responded favorably when considering the growth trends for organic coffee.

A number of coffee traders not currently selling organic coffee expect to begin selling it in the near future. In addition, some of the largest European and North American retailers are exploring these markets as well. As awareness for organic coffee increases, it will represent a considerable opportunity for new business.
